star-trek-theater_12.jpg

The term “Sci-Fi” will no more remain a fictional term…it seems, for crazy sci-fi fans are now attempting path breaking ways to turn the fictional world into reality. Remember, we have earlier told you about “Tony Alleyne” the guy who got so much crazy about the Star Trek universe, that he remodeled his condominium to look like the inside of the Starship Enterprise. And, just yesterday, we told you about the crazy Hamilton-inventor, who built a Halo-like suit for military purposes.

Now, Gary Reighn, another sci-fi fan has gone a step further to build a home theater based on the Star Trek show. Gary worked meticulously to create the Star Trek magic in his homemade Star Trek Theater. Gary’s homemade Star Trek Theater is equipped with a high-definition Sony LCD projector capable of 720p resolution, a 102-inch screen made from matte white screen vinyl and steel framing, Polk audio speakers in a 7.1 configuration, a Velodyne subwoofer, Yamaha receiver, Bravo DVD player, Philips Pronto remote, and Bass Shakers beneath the two home theater chairs in the front row and recliner in the back rows. Updated R2-D2 Home Theater System Costs Way too Much

r2d2hometheater.jpg

The R2-D2 Home Theater System isn’t completely new to the market, but this updatedversion from Hammacher is. R2 now sports a DLP projector in his little droid noggin that has a 1024 x 768 resolution and 1500:1 contrast ratio.

R2 can throw an image 80” in size from up to 16.5 feet away. If you feel like watching a movie on the ceiling, the projector can rotate 65 degrees making that possible. One of the arm housings has a DVD/CD player and R2’s vents hide an iPod dock, which I’m sure Luke always felt R2 was missing.

The iPod dock will fit most iPod’s including the iPod Video and allows you to play your videos back through the projector and hear the sound through the twin 20mm speakers built-in. Next to the docking station are a memory card reader and a USB port. Connections on the back allow you to hook up headphones, speakers and your game system as well. The only thing R2 lacks now is HD output and a price that geeks into Star Wars can afford. At $2799.95 I don’t see many Star Wars fans scrambling for their wallets. The Millennium Falcon statue holds the remote that controls R2-D2’s functions.

Corsair Launches Flash Padlock USB Drive

padlock_hero.jpg

Corsair launched their newest flash drive this week called the Flash Padlock. The drive is available in a 1GB capacity for $29.99 and a 2GB capacity for $39.99. Those are both pretty mundane amounts of storage these days, but the Flash Padlock offers a feature you won’t see elsewhere.

The front of the drive has a five button keypad that allows you to set your own, custom pin number of up to ten digits long. A hardware-enabled auto-lock function secures the drive each time you unplug it from your PC once you choose a pin number.

Once the drive is secure the data on the drive can’t be accessed unless you know the pin number. The drive won’t even be recognized by Windows when plugged into a computer without entering the pin number. No software is required on the attached computer for the Flash Padlock to work and it is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.

Asus Eee Could be the Cheapest UMPC Around

asuseeepc1.jpg

Asus has a new line of UMPC’s that are called Eee for easy to work with, easy to learn, and easy to play. While the

UMPC isn’t a new product with lots of them on the market, what is new is a UMPC that is down right affordable with versions of the Eee going for a mere $200.

Rumor has it that the cheapest version won’t be sold here in the states, but on the top end the Eee is reported to run around $400. You won’t get much in the way of performance for that amount of money with a small 7” LCD display, 512 MB of RAM, a small flash based hard drive rumored to be around 4GB and WiFi.

Asus would undoubtedly alloy users to upgrade their Eee system with more storage and perhaps more RAM as well. The notebook is planned to weigh around two pounds and be an inch thick or less. This won’t be a machine for ardent road warriors needing access to office applications, but for those who merely want to surf the net and chat, the Eee might be just the thing. Heck, bulk this think up a bit with enough RAM to run Windows decently and enough storage for Microsoft Office and I’d buy one for under $500.
